Adolescents and teenagers have many doubts and self beliefs that they acquire as they are growing up and experiencing new things and problems that they didnt have before. This period of life is very confusing for them and can create low self esteem especially in teenage girls.
A teenage girl is very sensitive to other people and her environment, sometimes they have problems at home with their parents that are fighting, other times they feel alone, they dont feel that they can trust anyone their feelings.Girls start to meet guys and have confusing feelings of what they want, sometimes they can have a love problems with a guy or a break up that hurts their feelings and self esteem for long time.Another important factor that causes self doubt is the pressure of society and the media messages and culture that they get. For example the media puts a lot of attention in thin girls as the success role model. Teen girls want to be desired and liked by other people so they try to be the standard role model by buying expensive clothes or losing weight. However sometimes it affects their self esteem because they are not like the successful role model and they feel bad about their self image and body image, that causes serious loss of self esteem.A teenage girl needs support and help from parents and friends, sometimes those problems are temporary, but in other instances can have long term negative effects, so is important to reinforce your self confidence every day. Most gilrs suffer from low self esteem at some point, but there is a lot that can be done to help them, visit us: how media and self esteem in girls affects

Teenage girls are constantly bombarded with gorgeous models, though often too thin to be healthy. on tv & in magazines.... though quite often these have been altered with photoshop to remove any blemishes etc. Losing too much weight and not eating properly has a devastating effect on their health.
Self esteem can be affected during these teenage years by the changing of friends. These friends take on new sports or start dating a boyfriend suddenly changing the dynamics of their relationship with each other... which can result in feeling rejected.
I came across this great resource which also covers self esteem and helping your teenager through these often difficult years when they are trying to find their own identity which I hope others find helpful.
