Thousands of people many of them adolescents die each year due to eating disorders. Anorexia nervosa is a deadly illness that many people dont understand and dont know the real danger. There are two sides of this illness the physical and the mental side. When a person starve her body and dont take nutrients there are some serious physical consequences that are clear, however anorexia is a mental disorder and its due to those emotional problems or self image disorder that she starves herself.Usually a person with anorexia has a distorted self image of how she really looks and how she wants to look. Many anorexics are really thin, but in the mirror they see a fat person. this is a serious issue that many people face they just need some encouraging words to make them stop being this way because they are hurting themseleves and also hurting eveyone that loves them, people who get called fat are the most likely to become anorexic because people are just hurting there feelings and making them feel bad for what they look like this is not Hollywood this is the real world, so everyone keep your rude comments to your self.

i was once suffering anorexia. i do not think this site fully understands what people go through when they suffer from it. i lost almost half my body weight and i wasnt fat to start off with. its a horrible thing to be faced with but you need to understand that anorexia is alot deeper than what you have stated above...

Im very thin. Maybe im anorexic. But I DONT see a fat person when I look in the mirror and I DONT want to lose weight. I need to gain weight so bad.

I have suffered from anorexia for five years. Anorexia is not about being skinny or pretty. This article is what most people percieve anorexia to be.
When a person cuts their wrists, is it because they want to cut their wrists? Do they think that there should be cuts across their arms and aspire to have bigger deeper cuts? Were they made fun of at school for not having cuts? Of course not. Cutting your wrists is not a smart idea. Neither is denying yourself proper nourishment. And yet we do it.
Anorexia, like cutting, is a form of self harm. It is a way of distracting yourself from the real issue, whatever that may be for the individual. Anorexia is a goal. Weight loss is something measureable on a scale. You can physically measure your 'success', where as actual normal goals like 'being nice' or 'learning a new language' or whatever, are not able to be measured quantitatively and are rather measured perceptively. Anorexics have a warped perception of themselves and must use some sort of linear system to determine their worth.
The only cure for anorexia is to cure the issue behind it.
